An inspection and certification system for organic food products, which allows a product to be sold as "organic" or "organic" with the JAS Mark affixed if it is recognized by a registered certifying organization as having been produced in compliance with the strict standards set forth in the JAS standards. For example, organic agricultural products must be grown in fields where no prohibited pesticides or chemical fertilizers have been used for three years prior to harvest, no prohibited pesticides or chemical fertilizers must be used during the growing period, and no genetically modified technology must be used.
