Daabon Group's banana cultivation dates back to 1914, when the first generation opened the first plantation. Since the 1990s, La Samaria has been expanding its plantations and has embarked on full-scale organic banana production and export, with a total of 800 hectares of organic and fair trade bananas grown on its five plantations in 2008, and an annual production volume of 30,000 tons. In addition to Santa Marta's favorable natural environment, La Samaria's production techniques meet the taste and quality requirements of markets around the world.
Fair trade
FLOTRABAN is an organization formed by the workers at La Samaria. Under the current BIOTROPICO fair trade standard, a premium per banana box is paid by consumers to this organization.
In the case of Daabon bananas, FLOTRABAN receives and operates the premium. The use of the premium is decided at a general meeting, and in 2007 it was used to build a community water treatment facility, install an electricity substation, and develop computer classrooms for schools in cooperation with the local government.
